Fix You - Coldplay

I think the effects of my video are very like real media products such as ‘Fix You’ by Coldplay, as in the use of slow-motion and the change in saturation and colour, etc. This video also builds up to a climax and the speed increases, like my product.

Analysis of HMV posters

This HMV poster which featured in an issue of MOJO mag is something I based a lot of my ideas on. The HMV logo in the top right-hand corner is to identify the advertiser so that the reader knows what they are looking at and why. The font used (MS Sans Serif) is HMV's signature font, which is used throughout and makes the poster look tidy and organised. They only use their theme colours of blue, black, white and pink to advertise the artists, which is another factor which helps the reader identify who the advertiser is, (apart from the CD cover image in the bottom right hand part of the poster, which is done so that people are able to recognise the CD easily in the shops).
They include their singature saying 'HMV get closer' to keep with the theme.
The lyrics of one of the artists songs are included, this may be to let the audience into what they would be buying.

Poster

For my poster I completely de-saturated the image of the model and sharpened it to give it an edgy effect. The model had an unemotional expression to add to the sombre mood. I included the HMV logo to make the poster more realistic, along with the copyright law along the bottom.

Image editing

Here is the original image:

I then blacked out the background and blurred the edges around the model. ^^

Then I blurred some bits of her face, so that it wasn't as shiny and to give the 'flawless' effect:

I then varied the colours on the channel mixer to make the image warmer by increasing the deeper colours like red and orange, and adding effects like shadowing.

Unfortunatly..

All three members of my group have left half way through the course, therefore only I will be working for the continuation of the project.

CD cover

The influence of my CD cover and music video style is Eva Cassidy, as Sara Barielle's voice is very soft and this song is slow, very much like the majority of Eva Cassidy's. Due to Eva Cassidy dying, a lot of her videos were made with nobody singing the lyrics (obviously, because it was her singing) , and we chose to use this style for our music video aswell. We used this technique for our CD cover also, using another female's face, as if she were the singer.

We took many pictures of our model, such as;

We did not use this image as we have cut some of the models head off, and we can see a lot of her jumper which is not needed.

We did not use this image as it is slightly out of focus, which would make it harder to edit.

We did not use this image as, once again, some of the models head is cut off at the top, and we wanted her eyes to be pointing further towards the ground to create a sombre mood to the cover.

This is the image we decided to use, as we believe it looks calm, her eyes are pointing in the right direction, and her head is in the correct position.

I used Edwardian Script ITC font for the text on my cover, as I believed it fit the theme. I tried to keep my cover as simple as possible (a lot like Eva Cassidy's CD covers), so that it wasnt cluttered, therefore only having one image and two bits of text. I added the artists name to identify her, using the same font as the song title.

Review of 'YourFilm' lecture

I thoroughly enjoyed the lecture my class recieved from 'YourFilm' production company. I think what made it different was that they were local boys, starting in the same place as we are now. I think this gave the class motivation and determination, because it shows how far you can get, just starting with a school camera and tripod. I loved watching their projects from when they were in secondary school, and then comparing them with what they are able to produce now - the difference was so significant! It was nice to speak to people who had so much experience, and who had passion for the subject.
